National Dog Shelter News
Dogs housed at the Spokane County Regional Animal Protection Services are given a finite amount of time to find a new home. The government contract to house strays, neglect and cruelty cases and owner surrenders challenges the staff to find enough space to house them on a daily basis.
Dogs are sometimes referred to the FIDO program by kennel staff who knows the dog is running out of time but would make a great pet with a little training. The dogs referred are then put through an enhanced temperament test and if it is determined that the dog demonstrates no aggression toward people or other dogs they are transferred to the FIDO program.
A typical FIDO dog when they enter the program probably jumps up on people, may play roughly, have limited self control and/or pulls on a leash like a draft horse. All things correctable with basic training.
FIDO Dogs are eligible for adoption through FIDO at the SCRAPS shelter in Spokane. For a snapshot of the FIDO dogs available for adoption today, check out our FIDO dog profiles.
